This is the Statt Mann, baby. It's time to Scatt a little bit!
While everyone else in motor racing grapples with a way to get on the entertainment marquee, the so-called Tuner World keeps racing on.
For example, drifter Tyler McQuarrie, third in last year’s Formula Drift points, has finished on the podium in his World Challenge debut. Sunday morning he was fourth in World Challenge after only two events, a win and a runner up.
Another example: in Australia Sierra Sierra Motorsports, once a ruler in the Formula Atlantic ranks, finished second this weekend in the World Time Attack Challenge.
In their first full year of trying, Sierra Sierra has climbed to within two seconds of the fastest Tuner Shops in the world. Friday, in fact, David Empringham and the Sierra Sierra EVO was the fastest in practice.
We’ve talked about Tanner Foust, Ken Block and Travis Pastrana and their world tours in rallying and rally cross.
And we’ve seen the world come to the U.S. and go home disappointed.
So, while the rest of racing looks for the right colored dancing monkey to sell to ticket buyers, the Tuner people are just racing into the future.
And I expect it to be an entertaining future.
Peace.
