This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit.
We’re not hearing much about Michael Andretti and Formula One these days. In fact, the headlines have separated
Michael Andretti from Andretti Autosport itself.
But there’s another headline this weekend that might help Andretti fans understand F1’s hesitancy at accepting Michael to the F1 grid.
Andretti’s main financial support was GM and it’s Cadillac brand. But anyone in racing understands automaker support can change on a whim.
Last March the IMSA world was shocked when Chip Ganassi Racing and Cadillac called it quits effective Saturday night after Petit LeMans. A race won by the Ganassi Cadillac, by the way, coming from two laps down to reach victory circle.
Cadillac and Ganassi was a successful partnership winning the prototype title in their first try four seasons ago. But racing usually doesn’t have a voice when decisions are made in an automaker board room.
Ganassi Racing says it’s sitting out IMSA until further notice. Ganassi has indicated it wants to compete for wins at Le Mans but that budget is measured in tonnage that would stun a team of oxen.
Somehow, I think Ganassi’s next partnership has been decided and an announcement may come soon. Oxen beware…
Peace.
